How to apply... How to go about getting your €1 house

Apply for a FREE house in Sicily, Italy.

The recently appointed mayor, Vittorio Sgarbi, of Salemi under the guidance of his cultural executive, Oliviera Toscani have decided to bring back to life the historic centre of Salemi by giving away the houses.

Hi David,

I sent you an email earlier, you mentioned you'd prefer to answer my questions through the forum. Please see below:

- Do you have any thoughts on what kind of schedule the Mayor's office has for this procedure? As of now information seems pretty scant
- Do you have any information on how houses are going to be distributed amongst interested parties?
- On the forums you mention restoration costs can run up to €450,000. Please elaborate a little on why you think costs would run up so high (and for what size building / apt, you expect this high end estimate to be applicable for)
- Could you please detail your experience a little in Italian real estate, in particular helping out foreigners acquiring property there?

Thanks
AdamC

Hello all. Sorry for the late replies i had to fly up to Lake Como viewing a villa near George Clooneys which is going up for sale.
Back to Sicily and answers to the above queries.

Nora & Marwan: I have sent you details now.
Lindi : Yes you can take up residency in Italy in these houses. It could become your preimary residence or secondary, depending on your life style choice.
Adam C: good questions..
Schedule : Salemi council are accepting letters of interest until furthr notice. At the end of October they will re evaluate the situation and maybe close applications, depends on the response.
Distribution : No official news on distribution/allocation of houses yet. The council will make an official ammouncment in the near future (this also depend on response). But if your not in the list of interested parties then you are NOT considered for allocation !!
Restoration: The quotes on the forum were from the smallest to the largest buildings. Now removed so not to mislead. Actual restoration costs are from 900 -1200 euros/square metre.
MIPC : I have lived & worked in Italy for over 20 years, including a period in Sicily. MIPC has been in the property sector for over 4 years. Project managed developments in Tuscany & Puglia. Advised clients on property investments across Italy. Recently worked on tourism and investment in Lake Iseo. Sold properties in Tuscany. Today i was evaluating a villa in Lake Como and Newsweek the international magazine held an telephone interview with me regarding the Salemi project, buy next weeks copy !!

Thanks for your questions....David

Hi my name is Mandy, I am very interested in the Salemi homes for sale. My main question is price. I read that it is about 1000 euros per sq metre, can you convert this into dollars and square feet? What is the average house size (in sqaure feet)?

thanks

Hi David you asked me to join this forum to chat and ask my questions, so here goes. What type of stone is the ruined town built from? What kind of mortar was used? Is the council of Salemi willing to allow the buyer to do any work themselves? When does the buyer own the property, before or after the two year completion. Is it possible to purchase multiple properties. I would like my application to be processed by mipc, how do i start.

many thanks

Hi David - thanks for the feedback of residency. Can you perhaps give me a contact with regards to Italian visas as I want to find out if I will be able to work in Salemi as I'm too young to retire! If you get residency (it will be my primary residence), do automatically qualify to work there? I assume you do but just want to double check.

Thanks

The www.mipc.co.uk website update, allowing you to process the letter of intent automatically on line, that was promised for 18:00 today GMT will happen tomorrow. Sorry for this delay.
Meanwhile if you register here or on the mipc.co.uk website you will be one of the first to know when this goes live.
